I kind of learned a new word recently. I mean, I have heard it before… to tend… to tend to your garden or something like that. But my good friend Maria Fernanda brought a whole different meaning of the word tend to my attention and I wanted to share how it kind of changed my perspective…and because of that, I decided to create a “Tending Challenge” for all of you, because I think we could all benefit from some extra tending in our lives. Just a quick reminder before I explain, to get full access to this challenge, you must be in our online group hangout!
verb: tend; 3rd person present: tends; past tense: tended; past participle: tended; gerund or present participle: tending
1.care for or look after; give one’s attention to.
Synonyms: look after, take care of, care for, minister to, attend to, see to, wait on; watch over, keep an eye on, mind, protect, watch, guard, supervise; nurse, nurture, cherish
“she tended her garden”
I found it really interesting when I was looking up the definition for this word that it was both hard to find a true definition for it, and that it often simply referred to plants. But I think there is a much deeper meaning to this word… it means to look after, to take care of, to nurture… all of which we can do to both ourselves and each other. So when my friend presented me the idea of this concept, I really started to think about all the aspects of life where this can apply. And I think that all of us could use a little extra self-tending in our lives. We are all employees, or business owners, sisters, mothers, daughters, friends, athletes… the list of our responsibilities goes on. I think we as women, (men too, but this really feels like it applies to women) don’t give ourselves the love and attention we deserve. When was the last time you really did something for yourself? Something that made you feel good, something you did simply because you wanted to do it..from a place of love and gratitude.
So, while this might not be a traditional monthly “challenge”… I really wanted to create something different this month. In the monthly challenge, I have put together a list of things to try this month to tend to yourself. Maybe some of them you already do in your life, maybe others you’ve never even thought of, but this month my challenge to you is to do something, at least one thing a day that tends to yourself. Some of the things in the challenge only take 5 minutes, others a few hours… it doesn’t matter the amount of time, it is the fact that you are consciously giving yourself the time to do something for yourself.
Enjoy everyone! Please note to enter the full challenge, you must be a part of our interactive group hangout, so sign up today to have access to all these amazing challenges!!
