About This Event - Why

The LONG Challenge Virtual Event has been created in memory of my Uncle, Darren Long, who lost his life on May 1, 2023 at the age of 58.

On December 14, 2017 he was hit by a taxi while walking to work one morning as he was crossing the street. This left him disabled, unable to walk, in extreme physical pain and unable to work at his landscaping job. As a family we quickly began to see the broken system of care, ultimately he slipped into those spaces and his pain lead to his passing in 2023.

Addiction is something that reaches far beyond one person. It is a ripple effect that carries through family and friends. It is estimated that 21.6% of Canada's population met the criteria for a substance use disorder (SUD). That is close to 8 million people suffering from addiction in Canada.

Let's start by making an impact in one community at one center. We will ripple.

How This Event Works

Your registration includes participant swag, a $5.00 donation to Into Action Recovery Society, your event bib and shipping.

Community, support and celebration this is what our events are all about. We believe that we can change peoples lives with those three elements. Help us support local organizations that are doing amazing things for others!

Virtual Event:

You are registering to run The LONG Challenge Virtually. This is called the LONG Challenge, you can run, walk, bike, skip, hop, jump for 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h or 24h. You choose your time frame, you go your chosen pace for your chosen time.

Choose to run or walk (or move) for 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h or 24h.
You have from July 19-20 to complete your challenge. You choose a location you love, where you live and where you feel safe to complete your challenge.
You can upload your results to our virtual challenge registration page. (link emailed two weeks before challenge begins)

Your event package is mailed to you and will arrive before July 19, 2025. This gives you the option to help us raise money and awareness no matter where you are and we can all run together around the world on the same day!

Important: Registration for our Virtual Runners closes May 30, 2025 so that we have time to mail your package to you before event day.

Into Action Recovery Society

Into Action Recovery is a compassionate residential addiction treatment center established on the principles of integrity, hope, empowerment, unity, and trust. As substance use experts, we understand addiction recovery, and what it takes to help individuals get free from addiction. We’re fully dedicated to helping people navigate their recovery path, so they can enjoy the freedom and rebuild their lives the way they truly desire.

Signing up to run virtually means that you are helping us raise money and make a difference no matter where in the world you live. From July 19-20, 2025 you will head outside with your running shoes on, hearts open and smiles shinnin’, to complete the time of your choice equipped with an event bib number and a heart full of determination.

Your event package, which includes your bib number and finishers gift will be sent to you in the mail before July 19, 2025.

You will also have the opportunity to track your run and log your time with our time keeping service. (a link is emailed to you close to event day) We highly encourage you to send us photos of your run so we can share the running love all around the world.
